Black Suspects Admit Race Motivated Killing of White Handyman

Details of the Case

A Louisiana police detective testified in court last week that race was a factor in the killing of Lawrence Herr, a white handyman who was shot while installing a mailbox on April 10. Two black men, Tahj Matthews and Maurice Holmes, were arrested and charged with Herr’s murder the following day.

According to the lead detective on the case, Matthews admitted to police that the suspects targeted Herr because they “wanted to kill a white person.” Video footage shows the suspects driving past Herr three times before opening fire on him.

Herr, known as “Peanut” to his loved ones, died at a local hospital. His friend Jean Foster described him as “a great person, a beautiful person” and questioned why anyone would want to harm him.

Investigation and Consequences

Police initially suspected that the murder was more than a random shooting, and the investigation is ongoing. The suspects had only met two weeks prior to the slaying.

Both Matthews and Holmes are facing charges for Herr’s murder and will face the consequences of their actions. Foster believes that justice must be served for her friend’s senseless death.
