Bipartisan data center bill splits Dems on and off the campaign trail

Senate Democrats successfully blocked a bipartisan GOP data center bill, the Ratepayer Protection Act, wich aimed to prevent data centers from increasing electricity costs. While the bill received broad support in the House-supported by nearly all Democrats and most Republicans-most Senate Democrats opposed it, revealing a disconnect within the party on this contentious issue related to campaign strategies and energy regulation.


Senate Democrats may have denied Republicans a midterm win by blocking a GOP senator’s bipartisan data center bill, but in the process, they revealed an out-of-sync party strategy over how to handle the increasingly contentious campaign issue.

The Ratepayer Protection Act, meant to prevent data centers from raising electricity prices, enjoyed sweeping support in the House from all but three Democrats while all but four of their colleagues in the Senate opposed it.
