Billboards Supporting Morgan Wallen Pop-Up Around Nashville

Two months after a racial slur incident crippled his music career, billboards supporting country star Morgan Wallen have been popping up all around Nashville, Tennessee.

“Billboards naming Morgan Wallen as the fans’ choice for Entertainer of the Year have appeared around Nashville just days ahead of the Academy of Country Music Awards (ACMs),” reports Fox News.

Wallen was deemed ineligible for the ACMs in February of this year after a video showed him using the N-word in reference to a white person after a drunken night out with friends. At least six billboards honoring Wallen have been erected in downtown Nashville featuring an outline of Wallen’s face while bearing the message: “His Fan’s Choice Entertainer of the Year. Support that boy from ‘East Tennessee!’”

“The billboards also share the phrase ‘gaht’ which is used by Wallen and reference ‘Mark 11:25,’ a bible verse,” added Fox News.

The origins of the billboards remain unknown.

As The Daily Wire reported in February, SiriusXM, Pandora, CMT, iHeartRadio and many others pulled Morgan Wallen’s music after a neighbor recorded him drunkenly referring to a white friend as the N-word.

Wallen’s music was first pulled by Cumulus Media. The country music heavyweight sent a directive to all of its 400-plus stations to remove Wallen’s songs from their playlists “effective immediately,” Variety reported.

iHeartRadio, Entercom, cable network CMT, satellite service SiriusXM, and streaming service Pandora have all also removed the 27-year-old’s songs. Variety noted that Wallen’s music is not currently appearing on platforms like Spotify and Apple Music, too. Nashville-based label Big Loud has suspended their contract with Wallen “indefinitely.”

Wallen was also disqualified from playing at the Country Music Awards.

“I’m embarrassed and sorry,” Wallen said. “I used an unacceptable and inappropriate racial slur that I wish I could take back. There are no excuses to use this type of language, ever. I want to sincerely apologize for using the word. I promise to do better.”

Despite the total de-platforming of his career, Wallen’s music sales continued to soar. In an apology video posted mid-February, Wallen lamented on how his actions let so many people down.

“The video you saw was me on hour 72 of a bender, and that’s not something I’m proud of either,” Wallen said. “Obviously, the natural thing to do is to apologize further and continue to apologize because you got caught, and that’s not what I wanted to do.”

“I let so many people down who mean a lot to me, who have given so much to me, it’s just not fair,” he added. “I let my parents down and they’re the furthest thing from the person in that video. I let my son down and I’m not OK with that.”

Wallen noted that the incident led him to have some very real conversations with black people and black leaders.

“This week I heard firsthand some personal stories from Black people that honestly shook me,” he said. “And I know what I’m going through this week doesn’t even compare to some of the trials I about from them. I came away from those discussions with a deep appreciation for them and a clearer understanding of the weight of my words.”
