Bill Introduced to Mandate Armed Security at Every Gas Station, Bank, Grocery Store, and Pawn Shop in Chicago

A new Illinois law has been introduced by a Democrat that would require armed security at all businesses susceptible to armed robbery.

The Armed Security Protection Act was introduced by Thaddeus Jones, a state representative from Illinois. If the bill is passed, it will make Chicago’s banks, gas stations and grocery stores mandatory to have armed security, or armed employees.

“Guards required in municipalities having in excess of 2,000,000 inhabitants. Beginning July 1, 2024, a bank, gas station, grocery store, and pawn shop shall employ and have on its premises at least one guard during the hours it is conducting business with the public,” The bill Reads.

It doesn’t say that it applies to Chicago. The legislation does apply to Chicago, however. Windy City is the only Illinois municipality with more than 2,000,000 residents. According to the latest census, Aurora is Illinois’ second-largest municipality with less than 200,000 inhabitants.

This bill is especially ironic because of several reasons.

First, it has a primary sponsor, a Democrat. Illinois Democrats Allgemein favor increased gun control — not more guns to curtail crime problems. Jones is an example. Voted Illinois Gov. J. B. Pritzker (D), signed into law earlier in the month.

Second, Lori Lightfoot, Chicago Mayor (D), blames guns in Chicago’s criminal problems. She claims guns stolen from other areas are brought into Chicago by the police and used as weapons by criminals.

Lightfoot is one example. 2020

The fact of the matter is our gun problem is related to the fact that we have too many illegal guns in our streets — 60% of which come from states outside of Illinois. We are being inundated by guns from states with virtually no gun control, background checks, or bans on assault weapons.

Jones’ bill, however, acknowledges that Jones has armed security officers (emphasis added). ArmedThey are an effective deterrent against crime. Businesses — like banks, gas stations, grocery stores, and pawn shops — are easy targets for criminals. Jones believes that an armed presence can stop crime.
