Biden’s decline ‘is a stain’ on Democrats’ honesty: Guy Benson

During the dedication ceremony of the Obama Presidential Center in chicago, Guy Benson of the Washington Examiner criticized President Joe Biden’s apparent moment of confusion, which he viewed as damaging to the Democratic image. Lincoln Obama and Jill Biden attended the event, with Obama exiting the stage early. Benson described Biden as an aging man seemingly in decline, noting that his recent health and mental state had been overlooked by Democrats. Benson argued that Biden’s performance and controversies, including a viral debate incident and recent audio release, suggest he is unfit for office, which could jeopardize democratic prospects in upcoming elections. Additionally, Hillary Clinton publicly criticized Biden’s mistakes, calling them a stain on his legacy and honesty, further fueling concerns within the political landscape.

Washington Examiner columnist Guy Benson said former President Joe Biden’s moment of confusion at the Obama Presidential Center’s dedication ceremony doesn’t paint a good image for Democrats.

Friday’s ceremony in Chicago included several former presidents. Former President Barack Obama walked off the stage at the end of the ceremony as the band played them out. He was followed by former first lady Jill Biden, as Joe trailed behind.

Biden looked at the crowd, waved, pointed, and stopped at the podium. He took off his sunglasses, stared into the crowd, and said, “Where’s my granddaughter?” with a smile.

“It’s sad. It’s an older aging gentleman who is in decline, and he was sort of hung out to dry out there, and someone should have had the presence of mind to have made sure that didn’t happen. I’d probably say that his wife would be at the top of that list,” Benson said on  Fox Business’s The Evening Edit.

“This is a man the Democrats told us in 2024 was fit as a fiddle, perfectly fine,” Benson said.

Benson argued that Democrats could have gotten away with another four-year term for the former president if his viral debate performance in 2024 hadn’t led him to suspend his campaign and endorse former Vice President Kamala Harris.

“The lies detonated and exploded on a debate stage two summers ago, and if that hadn’t happened, I think they would have stuck with him,” Benson said.

Hillary Clinton spoke out earlier this week on Biden’s second run.

“He made a terrible mistake, he made a terrible mistake for himself, his legacy, and for the country,” Clinton said during an interview with New Yorker editor David Remnick on Monday.

“This is a stain on their honesty, and sadly, his legacy as well,” Benson said.
