Jim Jordan threatens to subpoena Biden White House over ‘censorship’ records.

House Judiciary Committee Chairman Threatens Subpoena to White House Over Censorship Records

House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan (R-OH) is taking a bold stance in his pursuit of uncovering records on how the White House “coerced and colluded with companies and other intermediaries to censor speech.” Jordan is now dangling the possibility of a subpoena to the White House to obtain the information his panel has requested.

In April, Jordan’s panel requested information from the White House regarding its relationships with private entities and their alleged involvement in stifling free speech. However, Jordan is now rebuking Richard Stauber, special counsel to the President, for attempting to shift the request to executive branch agencies. Jordan argues that the records sought are unique to the Executive Office of the President.

“Accordingly, for the Committee to wholly and effectively fulfill its oversight obligations, the Committee must obtain documents and communications in the custody and control of the EOP,” Jordan wrote in a letter to White House Chief of Staff Jeff Zients. He set a June 29 deadline for compliance and warned that the Committee may resort to compulsory process if the requests remain outstanding.

Jordan emphasized the extensive evidence already available, indicating the White House’s involvement in urging and directing social media companies to impose viewpoint-based censorship. He believes that additional material exists within the Executive Office of the President that would shed light on the nature and extent of its involvement in this censorship scheme.

The Thursday letter also referenced recently discovered emails, revealing that White House Digital Strategy Director Rob Flaherty had been in communication with Facebook and Twitter in 2021, advising them on content moderation, including posts related to COVID-19.

The White House has not yet provided a comment on the matter.
