Biden to inspect Philadelphia highway collapse this Saturday.

President Biden to Survey Damage from I-95 Collapse in Philadelphia

President Joe Biden is set to visit Philadelphia on Saturday to assess the aftermath of the devastating collapse of a section of I-95. The incident occurred on Sunday when a commercial truck carrying a massive 8,500 gallons of gasoline crashed beneath an entrance ramp, resulting in a fiery explosion and the subsequent collapse of the entire northbound section of the highway.

Efforts to Address the Crisis

Principal deputy press secretary Olivia Dalton announced Biden’s trip to reporters on Friday while en route to an event with labor unions in Connecticut. During the aerial tour, the president will be accompanied by Governor Josh Shapiro (D-PA) and other local lawmakers. The White House has emphasized that Biden’s travel will not hinder the ongoing cleanup and recovery operations.

Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg has also been actively involved in addressing the situation. Earlier this week, he visited Philadelphia to meet with city and state leaders, discussing federal assistance and support. Buttigieg highlighted the potential economic impact of the incident, stating, “Part of what goes into the cost of everything that we pay for at the store is the cost of shipment. If a route is disrupted or lengthened, or if trucks face delays, these factors ultimately affect the cost of goods.”
