Biden faces challenges with crucial voter groups amid heightened scrutiny for reelection.

Can President Biden Secure Key Voting Blocs for Reelection?

President Joe Biden faces a tough challenge in securing the support of key voting blocs for his reelection bid. Young, Hispanic, and working-class voters are crucial for his chances, but lack of enthusiasm among these groups could be his undoing.

The Importance of Young and Hispanic Voters

Young voters have traditionally supported Democrats, and in the 2020 election, Biden won voters aged 18-29 by a 60%-36% margin over then-President Donald Trump. However, his approval rating among this group has dropped to 44%, according to a May 2023 poll from NPR-PBS-Marist. Similarly, Biden’s support among Hispanic voters has declined after several flubs during his term. In the 2020 election, he carried Latinos by a 65%-32% advantage over Trump, but in the 2022 midterm elections, Democratic candidates only won 57% of Hispanic voters, according to the Associated Press.

The Challenge of Working-Class Voters

Working-class voters, another traditionally Democratic stronghold, are also less enthusiastic about Biden. A Deseret News-HarrisX poll showed that 40% of working-class voters believe the Republican Party best represents their interests and views, compared to only 36% who say the Democratic Party better represents them. Despite branding himself as “Scranton Joe” and emphasizing his sympathy for the working class, Biden’s attempts to win over this group do not appear to be working.

President Biden will need to work hard to secure the support of these key voting blocs if he hopes to win a second term in office.
