President Biden Pledges Support for Law Enforcement on Peace Officer’s Memorial Day

President Joe Biden recently released a video statement in honor of Peace Officer’s Memorial Day, where he praised law enforcement officers and first responders for their bravery and dedication to keeping communities safe. He also emphasized the importance of supporting law enforcement and increasing funding for mental health services, expanded background checks, and investigations into “ghost guns.”

Defending Law Enforcement

Biden made it clear that he does not support defunding the police and wants to ensure that officers are not outgunned on the streets. He acknowledged the dangers that law enforcement officers face every day and expressed his gratitude for their service.

“Every day, you pin on that shield and walk out the door, running toward danger to keep the rest of us safe. Being an officer isn’t just what you do; it’s who you are.”

The Reality of the Job

The National Fraternal Order of Police reported that 443 law enforcement officers were killed in the line of duty in 2022, making it one of the most dangerous years for law enforcement in recent history. The FOP also revealed that 23,000 police officers have been killed in the line of duty since the first recorded death in 1792.

Addressing the Issue

Biden’s Safer America Plan, which includes $350 million in funding for mental health services and expanded background checks, aims to hire 100,000 new officers and train them in the latest techniques and technologies. The plan also seeks to investigate “ghost guns,” which are firearms built by individuals and do not have serial numbers.

By supporting law enforcement and providing them with the resources they need, Biden hopes to make communities safer and honor the sacrifices made by those who serve and protect.
