Biden displays lack of moral courage on Israel
President Joe Biden’s questionable actions towards Israel reveal his prioritization of reelection over moral integrity. He concealed his decision to cease arms supply to Israel post Holocaust Remembrance Day to garner praise before betraying Israel. By undermining Israel’s efforts against Hamas and engaging with antisemitic activists, Biden’s actions raise ethical concerns despite his professed support for Israel.
President Joe Biden is putting his cowardice on full display when it comes to Israel, proving that he only cares about pandering for reelection.
Biden and his team decided to hide his decision to stop sending arms to Israel until after Holocaust Remembrance Day so Biden could bask in the compliments over his speech before stabbing Israel in the back. Biden’s decision to try and stop Israel from going into Rafah, including threatening Israel with future policy changes, would only allow Hamas to survive, regroup, and attack Israel again and again (while they continue to hold American hostage).
Biden has talked out of both sides of his mouth on Israel in order to make everyone like him. The president and his team continuously talk about his “ironclad” support despite Biden trying to undermine Israel’s attempts to end Hamas for good. He also lectures Israel and has sent members of his team to meet with antisemitic activists accusing the country of genocide. Biden wants praise for his Holocaust remembrance speech while avoiding criticism for effectively trying to protect terrorists who want to commit another Holocaust.
In other words, Biden doesn’t have the moral backbone to stand with Israel against these activists (the way, say, Sen. John Fetterman [D-PA] has, with unwavering conviction). What changed from Biden’s defense of Israel in 2006, for example, where his “only criticism” was that the country wasn’t good at public relations to explain that the terrorists are operating in civilian areas? The only things that have changed are that Biden is president now instead of a senator and that Hamas massacred 1,200 civilians in the deadliest day for Jews since the Holocaust.

Through his decision to try to please everyone, Biden is pleasing no one. No attempt to undermine Israel will please the antisemites he is courting in swing states such as Michigan unless he fully commits to their “river to the sea” cause. Claiming he stands with Israel while constantly working to help a terrorist group survive against their interests just showcases his hypocrisy and moral cowardice, as does him constantly putting Israel and Hamas on the same plane, as National Security Council spokesman John Kirby did by saying both parties need to have “moral courage” to make a peace deal.

Biden is the last person to lecture anyone about “moral courage.” He is governing the country (with his terrible political instincts) based on his abysmal approval rating, not based on what is right. Unfortunately for him, and fortunately for the country, his cowardice continues to alienate people from both sides of his political calculation. It is the only silver lining from this entire ordeal.
