Biden and McCarthy stoke bipartisanship hopes at St. Patrick’s Day luncheon

While attending the Friends of Ireland Caucus St. Patrick’s Day Luncheon at Capitol Hill, President Joe Biden was all smiles with House Speaker Kevin McCarthy

Biden, McCarthy and the Debt Limit are the two main faces of partisan tensions. Yet, they both expressed their desire to reach bipartisan agreement at the event.

MCCARTHY BLASTS BIDEN BUDGET RECORD REQUEST AS COMPLETE UNSERIOUS’

McCarthy spoke first and noted that the luncheon was originally hosted by President Ronald Reagan, House Speaker Tip O’Neill.

He laughed that it was a joke. “clash is brewing” Between him and the president, over which Irish country is more than before telling Biden. “From one Irish American to another, I want to strive every day to live up to the example of President Reagan and Tip O’Neill.”

Biden added a short quote by Seamus Heaney from Ireland to his remarks. It was a quote that President Bill Clinton used in a speech in Derry in 1995.

“To this day, hope still brings us together,” The president stated. “It’s important to keep that in mind as we approach the upcoming anniversary of the Good Friday Agreement.”

Biden ended his remarks by stating that there is no way to know what the future holds. “no reason” Republicans and Democrats “can’t find common ground” He said that he hopes “we can then turn this breakfast into more of an everyday relationship.”
