Bernie Sanders Passes On 2024 Bid And Endorses Biden

Senator Bernie Sanders has announced that he will not be running for president in the 2024 cycle. Instead, he will be supporting President Joe Biden’s re-election effort. Sanders, who ran as a candidate in the Democratic Party’s last two presidential primary contests, has publicly eschewed a third run in a row. He stated that his job is to do what he can as chairman of the Health, Education, Labor and Pensions committee, to see Biden get re-elected and to help transform policy in America to protect the needs of workers.

Biden currently faces declared candidates in Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and self-help author Marianne Williamson, both of whom have been calling foul over the absence of planned debates and the Democratic National Committee choosing to fiddle with the nominating state schedule. Sanders expressed the view that the challengers won’t be able to overcome the incumbent.

Already the oldest person to be president at 80, Biden would be 86 at the end of a second term. Sanders is a bit older, at 81. He suffered a heart attack the last time he ran for president. A recent Associated Press-NORC Center for Public Affairs Research poll found that only 26% of Americans and 47% of Democrats want Biden to run again. On the Republican side, 76-year-old former President Donald Trump is seeking re-election and is generally leading GOP primary polls by wide margins.

Sanders warned that Trump being re-elected to office would be detrimental to the United States. He stated that the last thing this country needs is a right-wing demagogue who is going to try to undermine American democracy or take away a woman’s right to choose, or not address the crisis of gun violence, or racism, sexism or homophobia.
