Beer distributor speaks out on Bud Light controversy: ‘You deserve the truth’

Anheuser-Busch Distributor Asks for Support Amid Boycott

Alabama-based Bama Budweiser VP and GM Steve Tatum has recorded a radio ad asking beer drinkers to consider his employees when deciding to boycott Anheuser-Busch products due to the company’s partnership with transgender influencer Dylan Mulvaney.

The partnership has caused a nationwide boycott of Bud Light, with sales down almost 24% compared to the same period last year. Despite this, corporate leadership has not directly addressed the issue, causing concern for those who rely on selling Anheuser-Busch products to make a living.

Tatum’s radio ad, which has been playing on 10 stations across the state, appeals to Alabama beer drinkers who were put off by Mulvaney’s face on a Bud Light can. He acknowledges the mistake and asks them to think of the people who rely on sales of the beer to survive.

  • Tatum says in the ad, “We at Bama Budweiser, an independent wholesaler, employ around 100 people who live here, work here, and our children go to school here.”
  • He continues, “You deserve to know the truth, and life is too short to let a couple of individuals decide what you can eat or drink or spend your hard-earned money on. And remember, making friends is our business, not enemies.”

While some Facebook commenters expressed sympathy for Tatum and his employees, others remained committed to the boycott. However, Tatum’s message highlights the impact that corporate decisions can have on local businesses and their employees.

As Tatum says, “The voice of the consumer has been heard, and Anheuser-Busch has taken action.” It remains to be seen whether this action will be enough to win back customers and support local distributors.
