Former NBA Star Charles Barkley Rewrites Will to Support Students

Former NBA star Charles Barkley recently made changes to his will following the Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Affirmative Action. In an interview with AL.com, Barkley revealed that he had previously allocated $5 million to his alma mater, Auburn University. However, he has now diversity amidst SCOTUS affirmative action ruling.”>included specific conditions to assist students.

Initially, Barkley intended the funds to benefit Black students, and later expanded it to include those from disadvantaged backgrounds. However, he ultimately decided to make it exclusively for Black students, stating, “I need to make sure Black folks always have a place at Auburn. So, I’m gonna change my will and make it exclusive for Black students—all $5 million. It’s just the right thing to do. I always want to ensure that Auburn remains diverse.”

Harvard’s Commitment to Diversity Remains Strong

Harvard President-Elect Claudine Gay echoed Barkley’s sentiments, assuring future students that the university’s dedication to the “educational benefits of diversity” remains unwavering despite the Supreme Court ruling.

The court’s decision in the case of Students for Fair Admissions v. President and Fellows of Harvard College resulted in a 6-2 ruling, with Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson recusing herself due to her involvement with Harvard’s board.

According to Auburn University’s website, the percentage of Black students in the class of 2026 stands at 4.9%, slightly lower than the 5.3% reported in 2020.
