“Barbie” Woke Propaganda Push Already Under Way?

Remember “Ghostbusters?”

No, not the 1984 classic but the 2016 reboot as well as the media maelstrom surrounding it. The female-led update became an instant Culture War battle, with journalists taking sides in the conflict.

Do we even need to say which side they were on?

Story after story propped the film up, both sight unseen and after it hit theaters. Critic Richard Roeper said his fellow critics graded the film on a curve.

Now, it’s “Barbie’s” turn.

The 2023 “Barbie” feature, based on the iconic Mattel toy, stars Margot Robbie as the title character. The project sprung to life all the way back in 2014, and far-Left comic Amy Schumer originally planned to star in the feature.

She later backed out, suggesting her vision for the film didn’t align with the studio’s interpretation. Now, finally, the film is slated for a July 2023 release along with a starry cast including Ryan Gosling, Simu Liu, Will Ferrell and “Ghostbusters” alum Kate McKinnon.

The film’s first teaser trailer dropped this week, spoofing “2001: A Space Odyssey” while giving nothing away about the film’s plot, tone or hook. That’s Marketing 101, an effective tease that leaves audiences curious to see more.

To BuzzFeed, though, the trailer is proof that “Barbie” is the next blockbuster. Why?

The far-Left site uses a few Tweets to suggest audiences are flocking to see “Avatar: The Way of Water” just to watch the “Barbie” trailer. Yes, the same one they can see on their smart phones, tablets and laptops.

Really.

A three-hour Avatar sequel? Yawn. A trailer that might finally explain what the hell Greta Gerwig’s Barbie movie is about? Get into my pink convertible, losers, we’re going to the movies.

… many moviegoers say they only have eyes for Barbie, which has teased us with an absolutely stacked cast (Margot Robbie, Ryan Gosling, Will Ferrell, Simu Liu, and Ncuti Gatwa, to name a few), candy-colored publicity stills, and zero details about the plot.

The article leavens the hook by acknowledging those Twitter users are likely joking, but the woke site Mary Sue does no such thing. That article expands the story to include the “Oppenheimer” trailer, the teaser for director Christopher Nolan’s 2023 release.

The Yahoo! Entertainment story on the “Barbie” trailer’s release includes this description in the headline: “I Love It Already.” The fawning doesn’t end there, though.

And based on the early Twitter reaction, this movie may just launch a franchise to compete with Cameron’s blue cat people.

The 2009 blockbuster “Avatar” earned $785 million stateside. The sequel, “Avatar: The Way of Water,” is expected to generate $120-150 million this weekend … alone.

No sane observer expects “Barbie” to make anything close to those figures (nor must it to be deemed successful).

So why the positive spin from a supposedly neutral press?

Scribes hope “Barbie” is the next woke cineblast, much like they craved “Ghostbusters” would be before the film cost its studio $70 million.

The signs are obvious.

Director/co-writer Greta Gerwig’s feminist bona fides are on the record.

The film reportedly boasts multiple versions of Barbie and Ken, featuring actors of different races to be more inclusive.

Co-star Ferrell told the Wall Street Journal the film addressed how women are treated in society and the Patriarchy in general.

We still have no idea what the finished product will look like. Gerwig and co. may weave satire into the IP in ways that delight audiences of all ages and backgrounds. She previously delivered the critically hailed “Lady Bird” and “Little Women” remake. The actress-turned-auteur’s talents are clear.

Or, her film could wield a feminist cudgel and sap the fun out of the toy franchise.

For now, the media will be supporting the film in the not-so-grand “Ghostbusters” tradition. And we all know how that turned out.
