Maryland prosecutors have indicted 11 alleged members of the Baltimore gang, “39 Babies,” on charges ranging from murder to carjacking. Maryland’s Attorney General announced the charges against the gang members on Wednesday, asserting the group used violence to threaten other groups and flaunted their criminal activity on social media.

“In this case, drugs were funneled into Baltimore neighborhoods, violent acts were committed with no regard to human life or innocent bystanders,” said assistant special agent with the ATF, Toni Crosby. “Firearms were used freely to retaliate, harm and murder. The crimes detailed in this indictment are the kind that hold communities hostage.”

Prosecutors said an investigation into the group began in February of 2020 after a ballistics report linked the weapons used in two murders to those used in a number of violent crimes committed in Baltimore over the past year. Further investigation also revealed the gang had been a part of eight attempted murders, engaged in cocaine and weapons distribution, and are suspects in several murder-for-hire plots.

Authorities are now looking for one more member, who is a 19-year-old wanted for conspiracy and is considered armed and dangerous.

“This indictment sends a clear message to those engaging in criminal behavior, that together with all of our law enforcement partners, we will continue to pursue those responsible for violence in Baltimore,” said commissioner Michael Harrison.

Some of the gang’s members reportedly face more than a hundred counts, including murder and drug trafficking among other charges.
