Axios Says The Problem With Dem Communism Is GOP Noticing

The article discusses the recent media narratives claiming that Republicans are reigniting the “Red Scare” to distract from the Democratic Party’s embrace of communism. It highlights that some Democrats and socialists openly use Marxist language, such as advocating for seizing the means of production, which aligns with Marxist ideology. The piece criticizes media outlets like Axios for dismissing the ideological implications of these statements and emphasizes that these marxist ideas are being publicly endorsed by candidates and figures like Zohran Mamdani and Darializa Avila Chevalier. The article argues that the narratives suggesting Republicans are creating a new Red Scare are misleading as, in reality, it is indeed the socialist and Marxist rhetoric coming from certain Democrats that challenges the distinction between socialism and communism. It concludes that when political candidates openly promote Marxist principles and language, it is the Marxists, not Republicans, who are reviving the Red Scare.

As socialists continue to win primaries across the country, the propaganda press is falsely claiming that Republicans are reviving the “Red Scare” in a bid to shield the Democrat Party from the consequences of its explicit embrace of communism.

“GOP reboots the Red Scare as young Democrats embrace socialism,” a headline from Axios’ Avery Lotz read. According to Lotz, Trump and Republicans “are trying to re-introduce a national fear of ‘godless communists’ ahead of the critical midterms.”

Lotz went on to cite a colleague’s work to bolster her claims: “Reality check: Democratic socialism is not communism. New York’s Zohran Mamdani and Washington, D.C., mayoral candidate Janeese Lewis George both call for expanded government programs.” But this “reporting” intentionally omits Mamdani’s own words.

Mamdani said in a 2021 conference of socialists that socialists believe in “seizing the means of production.” Karl Marx, co-author of The Communist Manifesto, also argued that workers should seize the means of production. And Mamdani isn’t the only one using explicit Marxist phrasing.

Darializa Avila Chevalier, a socialist candidate for Congress, previously advocated for “seiz[ing] the means of production” in a now-deleted Twitter account, CNN reported. Chevalier also complained that public libraries didn’t have “enough Marxist literature,” according to CNN.

Yet Axios wants you to believe Republicans are “rebooting” the Red Scare baselessly against “Democratic Socialists” while ignoring that these aren’t mere “socialists” (as if that would make it any better). These are Marxists by definition.

CNN’s Kaitlan Collins utilized the same spin when trying to respond to Trump’s comments about “godless communists.”

“While Democrats themselves have been wrestling with what Tuesday night means for the direction of their party, socialism, much less democratic socialism, is not communism,” Collins asserted. Her commentary did little to support that assertion or explain why self-described socialists continue to invoke and use Marxist language and ideology.

The Hill published an article about how Chevalier “says she won’t respond to being called a communist” (prior to CNN’s reporting about her explicit communist posts). The article attempts to differentiate between socialism and communism and, given that Chevalier was endorsed by Mamdani, says that “Mamdani and his backers have advocated for city-run grocery stores, free healthcare, free transportation and higher taxes on the rich to even the economic playing field in the Big Apple.” The Hill omitted Mamdani’s explicit use of Marxist language.

An outlet called The Wire published an op-ed Tuesday by Manoj Joshi titled “Trump’s Red Scaremongering is Likely to Be Counterproductive.” Joshi says that while Trump did grow up at a time when the Red Scare “was based on a fear of the Soviet Union and the alleged violent activities of their agents in the country, the current bogeymen are people like … Mamdani” — as if Mamdani has not explicitly used Marxist language.

When candidates — and sitting elected officials — openly champion Marxist ideology and language, it’s not Republicans “rebooting” a Red Scare. It’s the Marxists rebooting a Red Scare.
