The fire allegedly started near the stage where a band was performing,after a circuit breaker smoked and caused a power outage,which was followed by an explosion that rapidly spread flames,possibly across the ceiling. Bangkok authorities are investigating whether the venue adhered to safety laws, including permitting regulations, especially as some exits may have been obstructed. Bangkok Gov. Chadchart Sittipunt said there would be an inquiry into whether the venue complied with applicable laws, including permitting requirements. Sittipunt said there may have been a table blocking one of the fire exits, and that the fire’s quick spread was likely due to it traveling across the ceiling.
