Migrants Share Reactions to Trip from Florida to Sacramento

In an exclusive interview, migrants who were transported from Florida to Sacramento, California have opened up about their experiences during the journey. A total of 36 migrants arrived in the Golden State between June 2 and 5, after multiple air flights that made stops in Texas and New Mexico before reaching their final destination. The Sacramento Bee obtained documents provided by the Floridian government, which shed light on the details of their travel.

The documents, available in both English and Spanish, clearly stated that each migrant had given their consent to the trip without any promises or guarantees regarding employment, benefits, healthcare, immigration status, or any other form of assistance. The form also included a clause stating that the migrants would not sue the state of Florida in exchange for the free transportation, while acknowledging the potential risks of air travel. The spokesperson from Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis’ office clarified that written or verbal consent was accepted.

However, some of the migrants have come forward to claim that despite the document they arrived with, certain promises were made to them prior to boarding their flight.

According to an anonymous Venezuelan migrant who spoke to CNN, “We are here because they offered us a job. We were deceived by the people who provided the flight service. They offered us jobs and housing.”

Another anonymous migrant reported to the Los Angeles Times, “All we received was abandonment.”

Following these allegations, California Attorney General Rob Bonta has taken action by filing public record requests to Florida. He is seeking all communications between the governor’s office, the Florida Department of Transportation, the Division of Emergency Management, Berry Aviation, and the third-party contractor Vertol Systems Company, Inc. This move is an apparent attempt to determine whether any laws have been violated.

It is worth noting that this year, both Florida and Texas have sent a significant number of migrants to other Democratic-run cities such as New York City, Washington, D.C., Chicago, and Martha’s Vineyard.
