Ashli Babbitt’s Mother Attends FBI Director’s Testimony

Ashli Babbitt’s mother, Micki Witthoeft, made a powerful statement at FBI Director Christopher Wray’s testimony before the House Judiciary Committee. She wore a T-shirt that boldly proclaimed, “Ashli Babbitt murdered by Capitol Police.” This refers to the tragic incident where Babbitt was shot and killed by police while attempting to breach the doors to the Speaker’s Lobby during the Jan. 6 Capitol riot.

Wray’s appearance before the committee was met with anticipation, as Republican members had numerous grievances about FBI operations. The GOP-led committee raised concerns about a withdrawn FBI memo on extremism in the Catholic Church, the FBI’s alleged interference with former President Donald Trump, and accusations of political corruption through social media censorship.

During the hearing, Rep. Paul Gosar (R-AZ) questioned Wray about the Capitol Police officer who fatally shot Ashli Babbitt. Gosar claimed that she was “lying in wait and then given no warning before being killed.”

Witthoeft herself has faced legal issues in the past. She was charged in May with simple assault and destruction of property for striking a counterprotester at a right-wing event near a DC jail. However, federal prosecutors have since decided not to pursue charges against her, as reported by WUSA9.

On the second anniversary of the riot, Witthoeft was arrested for “blocking and obstructing roadways” and failing to obey commands near the Capitol. However, all charges were later dropped, according to a report.
