Arizona Gov. Doug Ducey (R) signed several bills banning the teaching of critical race theory in schools and federal workplaces. Ducey announced the House bill on Friday, which would block state-run schools and government entities from requiring training in critical race theory.

Ducey also signed a second bill requiring transparency from those wishing to teach CRT. This would offer parents the opportunity to weigh in on what’s being taught to their children.

In addition, House Bill 2898 was signed by the Republican governor to prohibit students from being taught that one race holds superiority over another. Schools would have to pay a $5,000 fine for violation of this law.

The theory has developed into a point of controversy between progressives and conservatives, with parents often being pitted against liberal school boards wishing to push their agenda on the next generation. Several other Republican-led states have enacted laws to prohibit CRT from being added to school curriculums.

Meanwhile, the American Federation of Teachers announced they would pursue legal action against individuals and groups who oppose the teaching of critical race theory in schools.
