Ariana Grande used March 31, also known as “Trans Day of Visibility,” to pledge money and support to trans youth causes. The 28-year-old recording artist took to Instagram to express her feelings and promise that she’ll donate up to $1.5 million of her own money to specific organizations which are “providing direct services and advocating for the rights of trans youth.”

Grande’s post caption said, “please join me in donating to this fund i’ve created with @pledge.to to support organizations providing direct services and advocating for the rights of trans youth ! right now there are hundreds of disgraceful bills pending in state legislature that target trans youth and aim to curb their rights. this will provide critical funds to organizations advocating for the rights of trans youth. please share & swipe to find out more about where exactly our money is going !!!”

The accompanying slides had further details. She said, “Right now, there are hundreds of bills in state legislatures across the United States that target trans youth and aim to curb their rights. The impact of fighting these anti-trans bills and policies is felt all year by trans people, their families, and loved ones.”

She went on, “Please join me in donating to this fundraiser which will provide critical fund to organizations advocating for the rights of trans youth in states currently targeted by anti-trans policies. All funds will be split evenly between benefiting organizations… I will be matching all funds raised up to $1.5 million.”

Next, the “7 rings” singer listed some of the organizations she was promoting, including Black Trans Advocacy Coalition, Equality Florida, Gendernexus, House of Tulip, and a slew of others.

Grande has a history of being an outspoken advocate for the LGBT community. The Florida resident was raised Catholic but explained in 2013 how she left the faith due partly to the church’s stance on homosexuality.

“[They] said SpongeBob SquarePants is gay and he’s a sinner and he should burn in hell. And Harry Potter was a sin. And working women. I was like, ‘Enough! First the gays, then SpongeBob and now Harry Potter? Get out my house!’ I was not having it!”

Then in 2015 after the Supreme Court ruled in the landmark Obergefell v. Hodges case, which recognized same sex partnerships as marriage, Grande expressed her excitement during a show and mocked the justices who voted against legalizing same sex marriage.

According to Billboard, Grande said on the stage, “Make some noise if you think the Supreme Court justices who voted against gay marriage should get their heads out of their f***ing asses and join the god**** celebration. Make some noise if you’ve got one less problem without them motherf***kers.”
