Dr. Fauci agrees with DeSantis on COVID antibody treatments; will the AP smear him too?

Dr. Anthony Fauci touted a lab-made antibody treatment this week as an effective therapy for the coronavirus, saying it could reduce the risk of hospitalization and death by up to 85% if used right away.

Someone should tell the Associated Press, which last week published a report ascribing political motives to Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis for speaking favorably of monoclonal antibody treatments.

Apparently, the CEO of a third-party hedge fund, who donated to DeSantis’s campaign well before the coronavirus pandemic even began, also invested in the company that produces Regeneron, one of the antibody treatments DeSantis has celebrated. The insinuation in AP’s piece was that DeSantis was only pushing Regeneron to benefit one of his donors, not because it works or saves lives.

If that sounds far-fetched, it’s because it is. There is plenty of medical evidence supporting the use of Regeneron, which both DeSantis and Fauci have cited at length. Fauci, specifically, has been encouraging medical professionals to consider using antibody treatments in coronavirus cases since at least March. So isn’t it plausible that DeSantis took Fauci’s advice and decided to roll out antibody treatment centers statewide?

Of course it is. But the AP, which like most mainstream media outlets is determined to discredit DeSantis no matter what he says, cannot be counted on to cover the issue fairly. That might involve admitting that DeSantis is or has been right — right about Regeneron, about lockdowns, about mask mandates, about in-person schooling, all of it. That’s something our panic-addicted and Democrat-biased cannot afford to do.
