AOC angry about fake news account amusing right-wing social media.

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez Warns Followers to Be Careful About What They Read

“FYI there’s a fake account on here impersonating me and going viral. The Twitter CEO has engaged it, boosting visibility. It is releasing false policy statements and gaining spread. I am assessing with my team how to move forward. In the meantime, be careful of what you see.”

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) is making headlines after a meme Twitter account began parodying her press releases. The account, @AOCpress, has gained mass popularity, with conservatives across social media delighting in its content. Armed with a blue check, the account describes itself as “Saying the quiet part out loud (parody).”

The parody account has tweeted everything from Ocasio-Cortez’s personal life to her political views. One tweet reads, “If we tax citizens at a rate of 80%, we’d easily be able to pay 3 trillion dollars in reparations to transgenders.” Another commented, “Feeling cute, might go to the southern border for another photo shoot.” One popular tweet states, “To conserve water and save the planet, I’m not going to bathe until 2027.”

Despite the account’s popularity, Ocasio-Cortez does not appear to find the humor in it. She tweeted, “After brainstorming with my staff — I’m going to push Congress to make it illegal to joke, laugh, or make fun of me. Parody should be illegal.”

The parody account responded to Ocasio-Cortez’s concern by making fun of the situation. “I can’t believe people would think these parody tweets are from our office when they are clearly fake. Come on y’all you know I would never say something as stupid as that,” the account added.

Be Careful What You Believe

It’s important to be careful about what you read and believe, especially on social media. Always fact-check and verify sources before sharing information. Don’t fall for fake news or parody accounts that can spread false information and cause confusion.

Focus on the Real Issues

While it’s easy to get caught up in the drama of social media, it’s important to remember the real issues that affect our communities and our country. Let’s focus on finding solutions and working together to create positive change.
