AOC says she’d ‘stomp’ Vance in 2028 matchup after poll shows her leading VP
Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) ribbed Vice President JD Vance on Wednesday, telling reporters she would “stomp him” if the two faced off in a 2028 presidential election matchup.
Seen as a possible Democratic contender in the 2028 presidential election, Ocasio-Cortez highlighted a Verasight poll on her social media that showed her besting Vance 51% to 49% in a hypothetical general election matchup. When a reporter asked Ocasio-Cortez if she personally thinks she could beat Vance, as the poll suggested, she laughed but answered in the affirmative.
“Listen, these polls, like, three years out are, you know, they are what they are. But let the record show: I would stomp him,” Ocasio-Cortez said.
Vance has established himself as a possible contender for the 2028 GOP nomination, speaking on affordability in Pennsylvania and laughing about, but not ruling out, President Donald Trump’s succession dream team of a possible Vance-Marco Rubio ticket. After Trump ruled out a third term in October, Vance’s name has been floated by pundits in early speculations for months.
But the Bronx congresswoman brought herself into the speculative arena on Wednesday when she reposted the poll results alongside a caption simply reading, “Bloop!”
Ocasio-Cortez has stood alongside such names as former Vice President Kamala Harris and Govs. Gavin Newsom (D-CA), Josh Shapiro (D-PA), Wes Moore (D-MD), and Andy Beshear (D-KY) as some of the top contenders in the possible Democratic primary field.
VANCE IN RUNAWAY LEAD FOR 2028 GOP NOMINATION
Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) floated his prediction of an Ocasio-Cortez and Zohran Mamdani ticket after the New York City mayor-elect won his election in November. Mamdani is ineligible to be president or vice president, as he was born in Uganda.
Vance’s office did not respond to the Washington Examiner’s request for comment on Ocasio-Cortez’s comments.
