AOC, Sanders, Merkley roll out bill to ban Flock cameras
Legislation known as the Ban Flock Act was introduced by Representatives Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Bernie Sanders, and Jeff Merkley.It seeks to prohibit the federal government from using automated license plate reader (ALPR) cameras provided by Flock Safety. The bill would restrict federal agencies from accessing data collected by ALPRs and block federal funding to state and local governments that employ this technology.
Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY), Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT), and Sen. Jeff Merkley (D-OR) introduced legislation Friday that would prohibit the federal government from using Flock Safety’s automated license plate reader cameras and cut off federal funding for state and local governments that use the technology.
The legislation, dubbed the Ban Flock Act, would bar federal agencies from using or accessing data collected by automated license plate readers, or ALPRs. It would also prohibit federal grants from going to state and local governments that use the technology.
