Former British spy Christopher Steele appeared to scrambling to defend his role behind the false narrative of “Russian collusion.” During an interview Sunday, he admitted his dossier against 45th President Donald Trump was not 100 percent accurate.

However, Steele is still promoting his now debunked “opposition research.” The British spy claims the anti-Trump dossier was based on rumors and Russian sources, but he refused to disclose who those sources were.

“If you have a confidential source and that confidential source is blown or is uncovered, that confidential source will often take fright and downplay and underestimate what they’ve said and done. And I think that’s probably what happened here…I think anybody that’s named in this contact, particularly if they are Russian, has every reason to be afraid.”

The Dossier was released to mainstream media in early 2017. Since then, U.S. Congress has found Steele’s work was paid for by the Democrat National Committee and the Hillary Clinton campaign.
