One more Democratic senator rejects Biden nominee Adeel Mangi as White House makes a last-ditch effort

The Biden administration faces controversy over the ⁢nomination of Adeel Mangi ⁢as U.S. Circuit Judge. Accusations‌ of anti-Semitism, terrorist ties, and bias against law enforcement cast doubt on his candidacy. Several senators, including Democrats, have expressed concern, aligning with law enforcement groups in opposition. The nomination is in jeopardy amid intense scrutiny and opposition. The nomination of Adeel Mangi as ⁢U.S. Circuit Judge under the Biden administration ⁣is embroiled in ⁣controversy ⁣due to allegations of anti-Semitism, connections to terrorism, and perceived ‌bias against law enforcement. Both Democratic senators and law enforcement groups have raised concerns,‍ putting Mangi’s candidacy at risk amidst significant scrutiny and opposition.

The Biden administration is desperately trying to save the nomination of an extreme judicial nominee who has been accused of anti-Semitism, having connections to an organization that featured pro-terrorist speakers, and showing an “anti-victim and anti-police” bias in his legal work.

The nomination of Adeel Mangi, who Biden tapped to be the U.S. Circuit Judge for the Third Circuit, is on the verge of collapsing as a third Democrat in the U.S. Senate signaled this week that they will vote against him because of how disturbed they are about allegations being made against him.

“Given the concerns I’ve heard from law enforcement in Nevada, I am not planning to vote to confirm this nominee,” said Sen. Jacky Rosen (D-NV).

Rosen joins Sens. Joe Manchin (D-WV), Catherine Cortez Mastro (D-NV), and the entire Senate Republican Conference in opposing Mangi.

“Some Senate Republicans and their extreme allies are relentlessly smearing Adeel Mangi with baseless accusations that he is anti-police,” White House chief of staff Jeff Zients claimed in a statement, adding that the accusations “could not be further from the truth.”

The Muslim nominee has been criticized for his work for a group that featured speakers who backed anti-Semitic and anti-American activism.

Republican senators have also highlighted activity at the Center for Security, Race, and Rights at Rutgers Law School, where Mangi was a member of the group’s advisory board from 2019 to 2023. They found that the center co-sponsored a symposium on the 20th anniversary of 9/11 that featured a panelist who pled guilty to providing support for Islamic jihadists and another panelist who publicly called for an intifada in the U.S.

Multiple law enforcement groups have come out in opposition to Mangi, saying that his work shows strong bias against law enforcement and the victims of crime.
