ANALYSIS: Pelosi’s ‘Iron Fist In A Gucci Glove’ Has Dragged The Democratic Party To The Brink

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi has been the mastermind behind many Democratic victories, most recently the passage of a $3.5 trillion spending bill, but her leadership seems to be fracturing her caucus and risks crushing the Democratic Party altogether.

In her recent biography titled “Madam Speaker,” author Susan Page described Pelosi as a “master of the inside game of politics” who knows how to control her Democratic caucus. She also described her leadership style as an “iron first in a Gucci glove,” a phrase first used by former Politico journalist John Bresnahan.
