During a press conference on Friday, the Athens, Georgia police revealed that Jose Antonio Ibarra, a 26-year-old Venezuelan national who was not a U.S. resident, had been arrested for the murder of Laken Riley, a 22-year-old nursing student who was jogging on campus. Shockingly, it was later discovered that Ibarra had illegally crossed the southern border in September 2022 and was ”paroled” into the country by President Biden, just like over 1 million other migrants. Furthermore, Ibarra had been arrested in New York for endangering a child but was shielded from deportation by the city’s “sanctuary” policies.
In their report, the Associated Press compared Riley’s murder to that of Mollie Tibbetts, a University of Iowa student who was killed by an illegal alien while jogging in 2018. However, the AP conveniently failed to mention the immigration status of the perpetrators in both cases, instead focusing on the risks faced by female athletes exercising alone.

In their initial reports on Riley’s murder, CBS News and ABC News also failed to mention Ibarra’s immigration status.
The AP and numerous others acknowledged that Ibarra was not a U.S. citizen, but only buried this information deep in their reports after describing him as a resident of Athens. They also neglected to discuss the federal and New York policies that prevented immigration law enforcement from taking action against Ibarra.
The mainstream media has a long record of downplaying the consequences of failed Democratic border policies. For instance, after Tibbetts’s killer was convicted in 2021, headlines from CNN, the New York Times, ABC News, and NBC News referred to him as a “farm worker” instead of an illegal alien. ABC News even failed to mention his immigration status at all, describing him only as “a Mexican national.”
However, according to a recent Monmouth University poll, only 26 percent of Americans approve of Biden’s handling of the border, and 61 percent of Americans consider illegal immigration a “very serious problem.”
