The Abduction Ends: American Nurse and Daughter Released by Kidnappers
The abduction of an American nurse and her daughter that made news headlines in late July has finally come to an end as they have now been released by their kidnappers.
On Wednesday, El Roi, a faith-focused humanitarian organization, made a statement regarding Alix Dorsainvil and her young child, saying that they have both been released and have made a safe return back to their ministry.
Dorsainvil, 31, relocated to Haiti in 2020 to work as a nurse in a non-profit Christian organization established by her soon-to-be husband, whom she eventually married in 2021.
“It is with a heart of gratitude and immense joy that we at El Roi Haiti confirm the safe release of our staff member and friend, Alix Dorsainvil and her child who were held hostage in Port au Prince, Haiti. Today we are praising God for answered prayer,” El Roi stated.
On July 27th, Dorsainvil was tending to her daughter while working for the local ministry when they were taken by a group of armed men.
According to press reports, nearby witnesses saw a group of men bust down their door and forcefully grab the woman from a clinic she was working at. They also reportedly said that the men demanded $1 million in ransom.
On the same day that the mother and daughter were kidnapped in Haiti, the U.S. State Department released a non-emergency alert to government employees and family members, telling them to leave the country “due to kidnapping, crime, civil unrest, and poor health care infrastructure.”
The identity of the men responsible and any information regarding pending criminal charges has not been released.
