America 250 to include ‘Great American State Fair,’ UFC fight
Washington, D.C., will host major events for America’s 250th anniversary, including a “Great American State Fair” on the National Mall and a UFC main event on the White House South Lawn, Freedom 250 CEO Keith Krach said. The state fair, running June 25-July 10, will feature carnival rides, classic fair foods, and exhibits from all 50 states, territories, and federal agencies showcasing regional food and culture. The UFC fight has been confirmed for the White House site, though the fight card and exact date remain unannounced; President Trump previously suggested June 14 (Flag Day) as a possibility. Other planned semiquincentennial events include the Patriot Games for high school athletes, the Presidential 1776 Award civics competition, and July 4 fireworks on the National Mall.
America 250 to include ‘Great American State Fair’ and UFC fight at historic DC venues
Washington, D.C., is set to host some of the biggest events to celebrate the United States’s 250th anniversary, including a state fair and a UFC fight, Freedom 250 CEO Keith Krach said in a new interview on Friday.
America’s semiquincentennial is here, and with it come numerous festivities to celebrate the country’s founding. Included in those will be the “Great American State Fair” on the National Mall and a UFC fight at the South Lawn of the White House.
Krach told Washington-based radio station WTOP the state fair will feature carnival rides, traditional food fare like funnel cake and corn dogs, and exhibits from all 50 states.
“The National Mall transforms into the biggest, boldest state fair in the country. From Maine lobster rolls to Hawaii’s shimmering hula stage, Texas-sized steaks to Alaska’s towering ice carvings, all fifty states, territories, and federal agencies showcase their food, culture, and pride to one unforgettable, coast-to-coast celebration,” the Freedom 250 website says of the event.
The fair is slated to run for three weeks from June 25 to July 10.
Krach also confirmed that a UFC main event will take place at the White House. While he didn’t reveal a date for the much-anticipated fights, President Donald Trump said last year that it will take place on June 14, which is Flag Day and also the president’s 80th birthday.

The card for the event has yet to be determined, beyond that it will feature the “greatest champion fighters in the world, all fighting that same night,” according to Trump.
Other major events slated for America’s 250th anniversary include the “Patriot Games,” a four-day athletic event between male and female high school athletes; the “Presidential 1776 Award,” a three-round competition testing high school students’ civics knowledge; and July 4 fireworks on the National Mall.
