Amber Heard Claims She Was Released From ‘Aquaman’ Contract, Might Not Appear In Sequel
Amber Heard claimed on the stand this week that she was released from her “Aquaman” contract and is not sure if she’ll even make the final cut of the sequel, “Aquaman 2.”
Ex-husband Johnny Depp is suing Heard for $50 million over an op-ed she wrote at The Washington Post about domestic violence, which the actor claims significantly hurt his Hollywood career. Heard has countersued for $100 million.
Heard testified Tuesday that she was let go from her contract and had to “fight” to stay in the film, which is still an uncertainty.
“They released me from my contract,” Heard told Depp attorney Camille Vasquez. “And I fought to stay in it, and they kept me in it. I just don’t know how much I’m in, actually, of the final cut.”
“I don’t know if I will even be in the final cut or how much I will be,” the actress added. “It was difficult to stay in the movie.”
Heard is claiming the film industry has treated her poorly for “speaking out” about domestic violence.
Alternatively, Depp’s team suggested such backlash could have been from Heard’s own actions, noting that audio of Heard admitting to “hitting” Depp caused her bad press, for example.
“I was given a script and then given new versions of the script that had taken away scenes that had action in it,” Heard told the court during the defamation trial, Newsweek reported. “That depicted my character and another character—without giving any spoilers away, two characters fighting with one another. They basically took a bunch out of my role. They just removed a bunch.”
“I fought really hard to stay in the movie,” the 36-year-old said. “They didn’t want to include me in the film.”
Earlier this month, a source said Heard’s role in “Aquaman 2” was cut down to a mere 10 minutes, The Daily Wire’s Amanda Harding reported.
“I hear #AmberHeard has less than 10 min of screen time in #Aquaman2,” film journalist Grace Randolph tweeted.
“This news came as the change.org petition to have the 36-year-old actress removed earned over 3 million signatures,” Harding noted. “The original goal of 3 million was changed to 4.5 million after they achieved the first hurdle.”
Heard had a challenging couple of days on the stand this week, notably rushing out of the courtroom on Tuesday after redirect testimony.
“When #AmberHeard was done testifying the judge told her she could have a seat next to her attorney, twice – instead – Heard walked out of the courtroom before the jury had the opportunity to leave for the break,” Law&Crime’s Cathy Russon reported, captioned video of the viral moment.
