Young Arizona Woman Brutally Stabbed to Death

Suspect Wanted to Look Like Victim

A suspect has been arrested and charged with first-degree murder in the death of Lauren Heike, a 29-year-old woman who was found dead on April 28 along a hiking trail near her Phoenix home. Zion William Teasley, 22, was arrested on May 4 and has been linked to the killing through DNA, video, and cell phone evidence.

According to news reports, Teasley told police that he “wanted to look like” Heike when shown a photo of the victim during questioning. He also reportedly spoke about growing up as a Christian and struggling with his sexuality, fearing for his soul’s salvation due to his thoughts.

Prior Criminal Record

Teasley’s prior criminal record includes charges of robbery, kidnapping, and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. He served time from July 2021 until November 2022 as a result of a plea deal.

Investigation Ongoing

Police have not yet concluded their investigation into whether the attack was random or targeted. Heike had been stabbed 15 times, and her belongings were scattered along the trail, indicating that she may have tried to negotiate a barbed-wire fence during the ordeal.

Do You Think Teasley is the Murderer?

Teasley’s LinkedIn account indicates that he served in the Marine Corps for one year and four months before being medically discharged. However, a Marine Corps representative confirmed that Teasley had entered boot camp in March 2019 but left three months later before completing his training.

Teasley’s bond has been set at $1 million, but he is ineligible for bail due to his prior conviction.
