An Afghan-American family who was trapped in Afghanistan spoke out after they escaped from the turmoil surrounding the U.S. withdrawal. Mohammed Faizi, who lives in San Diego County, said his family spent days at the airport in Kabul before finally being able to get on a plane.
Faizi said he had California Rep. Darrell Issa (R) and the U.S. military to thank as they played a crucial role in making sure families returned home before the August 31 deadline.
“So finally, finally, we came here and it was not easy,” Faizi explained. “I was four days stuck inside the base with my five kids, through the sunshine, no shelter, nothing.”
The Faizi family is home. Their story of courage — both father and children — is remarkable. My team and I are proud we were able to help them escape from Afghanistan.

The family went on to say they were in Afghanistan since July 19 to visit loved ones one last time.
