Poll shows Katie Porter gaining ground on Adam Schiff in California Senate primary.

Rep. Katie Porter Gains Edge Over Rep. Adam Schiff in Competitive Democratic Primary Race

Rep. Katie Porter (D-CA) is making waves in the competitive Democratic primary race for the seat of Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-CA), gaining an edge over Rep. Adam Schiff (D-CA).

In a new poll from the Public Policy Institute of California, Porter leads Schiff by 3 percentage points. Nineteen percent of likely voters in California supported Porter, while 16% preferred Schiff when asked who, regardless of party, they would consider voting for.

It’s important to note that this lead falls within the poll’s margin of error, which is plus or minus 3.8 percentage points.

Rep. Barbara Lee (D-CA), who is also vying for the seat, received 13% of support.

Schiff’s Impressive Fundraising Efforts

In the second quarter of 2023, Schiff’s campaign revealed a record-breaking million in fundraising. Despite being censured by his House Republican colleagues, Schiff turned this into an opportunity to reach out to voters for support.

He amassed an impressive 144,000 unique donors, resulting in 233,000 donations from all 50 states and all 58 California counties. Notably, the majority of his donations were under $200.

Porter, known for her own fundraising prowess, did not provide second quarter fundraising data in response to the Washington Examiner’s request.

However, Porter’s team remains confident and has been actively working to convince Democratic activists and interest groups that she can hold her own against Schiff, despite the difference in donations.
