Acupuncture Therapy Effective in the Prevention and Treatment of Diabetes: Studies
The disease of diabetes mellitus can be a serious one with many complications. Acupuncture therapy may have a curative or preventative effect on diabetes mellitus and all its complications, according to studies.
recent study Sabina Li, a Professor at Kyung Hee University’s College of Korean Medicine investigated whether acupuncture can be used to lower the risk of developing macrovascular complications among diabetic patients on antidiabetic drugs. This study was published in Journal of Integrative Medicine on February 2, 2009.
21232 patients with diabetes were identified in the study. They are all listed in a Korean national sample cohort called National Health Insurance Service-National Sample Cohort. These patients had taken anti-diabetic medication between 2003 and 2006, and had received many acupuncture treatment.
The researchers separated the participants into two categories to allow for more detailed examination. The study involved 3,350 finalist in a Propensity Score Matching (PSM). You were then notified that you had been selected for observation.
Study found that the group who received acupuncture had lower rates of major heart attacks.
