Actor Dennis Quaid: A Power Grid Failure Would Make COVID ‘Look Like A Kids’ Show’

Dennis Quaid, the renowned actor, issued a warning on Friday that a massive failure of the power grid could make the COVID-19 pandemic “look like a kids’ show.” Quaid revealed just how devastating such an event could be in an interview with Jesse Watters on Fox News, explaining how it could affect almost every aspect of society.

Quaid, who recently narrated the documentary “Grid Down, Power Up,” believes that the United States is unprepared for a disaster of this magnitude. He cites several attacks on substations, including one that occurred a couple of months ago. He warned, “It could happen. This is not ‘Day After Tomorrow,’ by the way, this is tomorrow, I think.”

Quaid explained how the ramifications of a power grid failure would be significant: “Just 30 days without electricity, it would take us back to 1880. You wouldn’t be able to get gas. You wouldn’t be able to get food.” Quaid also pointed out that law enforcement would be severely impacted because police officers would need to stay at home to tend to their families.

Watters emphasized that a lack of power would also negatively impact people’s ability to access clean water. Quaid expressed his concern, stating, “This is something that if it does happen, it’s going to make COVID look like a kids show.” He criticized the lack of action being taken to prepare for such an event.

When asked about his politics, Quaid, an independent who has voted for both major parties, admitted that he had not faced any pressure to keep his views to himself. However, he argued that Republicans and Democrats need each other to maintain balance, although he is troubled by the deepening divisiveness in society. Quaid said, “It usually takes some kind of big thing like World War II really brought…you know we really got our act together when that came up.”

Finally, when asked whether something like World War II could happen in the event of a power failure, Quaid replied, “Oh yeah. For sure. It’ll be — we’ll be back to tribal law by that time.”
