Report: Russia plots to kill Prigozhin post mutiny.
Ukraine Intelligence Reveals Russia’s Plot to Assassinate Yevgeny Prigozhin
A top Ukrainian intelligence official has recently disclosed that they have received credible intelligence indicating that Russia is planning to assassinate Yevgeny Prigozhin. This revelation comes after Prigozhin’s Wagner paramilitary forces led a rebellion against the Russian military establishment last month.
Maj. Gen. Kyrylo Budanov, the head of the Ukrainian Defense Intelligence Directorate, confirmed in an interview with The War Zone that Ukraine had been aware of Prigozhin’s plans to rebel against elements of the Russian government for some time. This aligns with what U.S. officials have also stated.
When asked about the likelihood of Prigozhin being assassinated, Budanov responded, “We are aware that the FSB was charged with a task to assassinate him.”
“Will they be successful in doing that? We’ll see with time. So in any case, all of such potential assassination attempts will not be fast,” he continued. “It will take them some time to have the proper approaches and to reach the stage when they’re ready to add a huge operation. But once again, I’d like to underline that it’s a big open question. Would they be successful in fulfilling that? Will they dare to execute that order?”

Belarusian President Brokers Deal Amidst Rising Tensions
In an attempt to halt Wagner’s advance on Moscow, Belarusian President Aleksandr G. Lukashenko brokered a deal last weekend. The agreement involved dropping charges against Prigozhin and his men in exchange for allowing Prigozhin to escape to Belarus, with all criminal charges being dismissed. However, Lukashenko revealed that Putin had discussed the possibility of killing Prigozhin, indicating that this option remains on the table and is highly likely to occur, according to military experts.
According to The New York Times, Prigozhin has not been seen or heard from since last weekend. While Russia initially announced their intention to drop charges against him, conflicting reports have emerged regarding the actual outcome now that the mutiny has ended.
Wagner troops are currently facing a choice between signing a contract with the Russian government or returning to civilian life as private citizens in Russian society. This new order, issued by Russian President Vladimir Putin, came into effect on Saturday.
