Bud Light received extremely negative feedback on social media following the introduction of Dylan Mulvaney as their new spokesperson for the company in a series of videos. Mulvaney, a transgender TikTok star and Broadway actor from San Diego, California appeared in the videos and was featured on packs of beer cans produced by the company to celebrate Mulvaney’s self-proclaimed “365 Days of Girlhood” milestone.
Mulvaney celebrated March Madness with Bud Light and informed their followers on Instagram that the beer company was giving away a grand prize of $15,000 to followers who create a video using the hashtag #EasyCarryContest. Mulvaney also appeared in another video while drinking Bud Lite in the bathtub as part of the ad campaign.
I have never wanted a drink less than this. For all those asking “Bud Light seriously didn’t do a deal with this guy that pretends to be a girl, did they?” Uh, yeah… They did. I apologize in advance for the nausea. pic.twitter.com/Z9YzLZozna
Anheuser-Busch, the parent company of Bud Light stated, “From time to time we produce unique commemorative cans for fans and for brand influencers, like Dylan Mulvaney. This commemorative can was a gift to celebrate a personal milestone and is not for sale to the general public.”
Several Twitter users criticized the announcement, labeling the ad campaign as an attempt to spread gender misinformation and LGBTQ+ propaganda. Brands have frequently targeted Mulvaney due to the audience that the actor has attracted, with a large overflow of fans who support trans activism. Besides Bud Lite, Dylan has collaborated with brands like Kate Spade and Tampax.
“Celebrating the first day of spring with @katespadeny #katespadenypartner,” Mulvaney wrote.
