9 Republicans Sign Letter Opposing McCarthy’s Bid for Speaker

Kevin McCarthy is facing trouble with just 24 hours to convince more than a dozen Republicans to vote for him as Speaker with one dissenter calling him a member of the “swamp cartel.

McCarthy would need 218 votes to be elected Speaker. This means that he cannot lose support from four Republicans.

Nine Republicans were present on Sunday signed a letter saying that McCarthy’s efforts to woo conservative Republicans were too little, too late.

“[T]he times call for radical departure from the status quo — not a continuation of past, and ongoing, Republican failures,” The letter contained the following:

The letter was signed by Republican Reps. Scott Perry in Pennsylvania, Chip Roy of Texas and Paul Gosar, Dan Bishop, Andy Harris, Maryland, Chip Roy, and Andrew Clyde, Georgia.

Reps.-elect Andy Ogles, Anna Paulina Luna, Florida, and Eli Crane, Arizona signed on.

Fox & Friends was informed Monday by Representative Bob Good that McCarthy is not being allowed to speak. “part of the problem, not the solution.”

McCarthy was praised for his role in helping Democrats pass an enormous omnibus spending bill.

“There is nothing that indicates to me that he is going to change his pattern since he has been in leadership where he is part of the swamp cartel,” Virginia Republican:

“He is the reason on the Republican side why we pass massive omnibus spending bills that just got rammed down our throats by Republicans in the Senate. He was part of that in leadership.”

“There is nothing about Kevin McCarthy that indicates he will bring the change that’s needed to Washington or that’s needed in the Congress or he will bring the fight against Biden-Schumer agenda and represent the interest of the voters who sent us to Washington to bring us real change,” Good words.

Meanwhile, Rep. Matt Gaetz said he won’t be voting for Kevin McCarthy for Speaker because he’s “just a shill of The Establishment.”
