Half a Century On, The Pain of My Abortion Lingers

Last week, France⁢ took the historic‍ step of anchoring abortion rights within its constitution. This momentous occasion was marked by exuberant crowds and a poignant⁤ message in lights on the Eiffel Tower: “mon corps mon choix,” affirming ⁣the rights over one’s body.

On‍ the ⁣streets of New York City, outside an abortion‌ facility, I stood with‌ a sign that read: “I had an abortion, ⁢life does not⁢ go back⁢ to normal”. There, I‌ encountered a pro-abortion protester who claimed her⁤ life was unaltered after multiple abortions. I pondered silently,⁣ questioning if such ⁢a scenario should ever be considered the norm.

Abortion alters lives—its impact ripples through individuals ⁣and our nation alike. It’s a transformative event with ⁣untold consequences.

My own journey since my abortion at 17 has been a testament to this transformation. Pressured into the procedure, the enduring memory of my unborn child’s fate after a saline abortion is seared into my mind. This is a⁣ horror⁣ that still remains shrouded from public view.

The language surrounding abortion often skirts the reality, cloaking it in⁤ terms ⁢of “healthcare” or “choice”. Yet, it‍ stands as the termination ‍of an unborn life ⁣and a failure to‍ protect⁤ the most vulnerable for the sake ⁢of self-preservation. ⁣The truth ⁢is often drowned out by a sea of rhetoric and lies.

As elections draw near, the media narrative often paints abortion restrictions as detrimental to women’s mental health. Yet, this‍ view neglects the emotional and psychological trauma that abortion can inflict, as countless women I’ve aided through post-abortion healing ⁢ministries can⁢ attest.

Confronting the Unspoken Truth

Abortion, frequently framed as a self-determined choice, is often a path taken under duress, with ⁣women coerced by partners or family members, or following abuse.⁤ This glosses over the subsequent suffering and societal silencing these women endure.

In ⁣a disturbing trend, home-based ⁢chemical abortions are being‌ promoted, yet for many, the resulting anguish is inescapable. The protection ⁢afforded to abortion clinics starkly⁤ contrasts with ⁤the indifference shown towards the lives terminated inside them.

The Echo ‌of Silence

Society has become adept at ignoring abortion’s reality. Laws guard clinics zealously while conveniently ignoring the tragedy unfolding behind their walls, referred to merely as “women’s health”.

A Call To Acknowledge

Ultimately, society will have to confront the enormity of the loss—over 63 million young lives in the U.S. Some may choose indifference or even celebration,‍ but awareness and complicity can no longer be denied.

As voters and citizens, we owe it to ‌ourselves to face the stark truth of abortion.‌ At 17, under a veil of⁢ fear, I succumbed to an abortion, joining ⁣millions with similar stories. My experience has compelled me to never shy away from the‌ painful truth of abortion, or to silence its reality.

Courage is needed to speak out against the narrative that masks⁤ the act of abortion under the guise of‌ rights. For the sake of the innocent lives lost and the‍ women bearing silent trauma, I hope to always stand firm in truth.
