50 Cent claims LA is ‘done’ due to zero bail policy’s return.

Rapper 50 Cent Slams Los Angeles Over Zero Bail Policy

Rapper Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson III expressed his strong disapproval of Los Angeles’ zero bail policy, declaring that the city is “finished.” In an Instagram reel, Jackson voiced his concerns about the potential consequences of this policy.

Crime on the Rise

The zero bail policy, initially implemented as a COVID-19 measure, eliminated bail for individuals involved in misdemeanors and nonviolent felonies. Its purpose was to alleviate overcrowding in prisons. However, this policy was reinstated in May, and since then, crime rates have been steadily increasing.

The L.A. County Sheriff’s Department, despite the rise in crime, remains committed to enforcing the policy. In a statement, they acknowledged the court-ordered bail schedule and expressed their collaboration with the court and other stakeholders to explore alternatives that prioritize public safety.

Controversy Surrounding Cash Bail

Critics of cash bail argue that it disproportionately affects low-income individuals and perpetuates class and race-based inequities within the criminal justice system. Governor Gavin Newsom’s reparations task force has been actively advocating for the termination of cash bail, citing its contribution to systemic injustices.

“The cash bail system is at the core of many of the class and race-based inequities in the criminal legal system,” states the task force. They recommend that the legislature take decisive action to definitively end cash bail.
