A tragic incident occurred in Houston, Texas, where a 3-month-old baby lost their life after being left unattended in a hot car on a scorching 101-degree weather day.
According to reports, the mother visited the Harris Center for Mental Health and IDD, bringing her two children along. However, she only took her 4-year-old inside, leaving the infant behind in the sweltering car.
Tragically, when she returned, the 3-month-old baby was unresponsive. Desperate, she rushed the child into the mental health facility, where nurses attempted CPR.
Emergency responders from the Houston police and fire department arrived at the scene and made every effort to save the child’s life. Sadly, the baby was pronounced dead upon arrival at a local hospital.
Houston Police Assistant Chief Yasar Bashir described the incident as an ”avoidable” tragedy, emphasizing that leaving a child in a car, especially an infant, even for a moment, is extremely dangerous due to the rapid increase in body temperature.
“Houston gets very hot and under no circumstances you should leave a child in a car, not even for a moment,” said Bashir. “Especially an infant or a child, the body temperature goes up very quickly.”
The Harris County medical examiner will conduct an autopsy to determine the cause of death. It remains unclear if any charges have been filed or how long the infant was left alone.
