Unveiling the Man Behind the Music
While Anthony’s personal politics remain a mystery, one thing is certain: his musical prowess is undeniable. Inspired by the legendary Hank Williams, he recorded “Rich Men North of Richmond” in a picturesque outdoor setting, surrounded by his loyal trio of dogs. Strumming on a guitar with an aluminum resonator cone, Anthony poured his heart and soul into every note.
It’s worth noting that Farmville, Anthony’s beloved hometown, falls within Virginia’s 5th Congressional District, currently represented by Rep. Bob Good (R-VA) since 2020. A true hometown hero!
“There was one line in Rich Men North of Richmond that a lot of people overlooked. I figured when I wrote the song, that the island line would be the one that was controversial, not the fudge rounds,” Anthony candidly shared on Instagram, reflecting on his unexpected hit. “But what do I know.”
The song’s impact reached new heights when it made its way into the first Republican debate in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Anthony couldn’t help but chuckle at the attention, playfully remarking that he “wrote that song about those people.” When media outlets attempted to label him as a supporter of President Joe Biden, Anthony swiftly clarified that his true stance is against “corporate-owned DC politicians on both sides.”
While Anthony turned down jaw-dropping $8 million contract offers, he embarked on a nationwide tour this year, captivating audiences across the country. And get ready, because he recently announced an epic international tour for 2024, spanning from February to September. His journey will take him through Europe, the United States, and even a special stop in Australia.
