Zelensky warns of Russia’s war resurgence following Moscow drone attack.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky: War is Returning to Russian Soil
In a powerful statement, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky declared that war is once again making its way onto Russian territory. Speaking in his daily address on Sunday, Zelensky emphasized the growing strength of Ukraine, more than 500 days after Russia initiated its invasion of the country.
“The war is gradually returning to Russia’s territory, to its symbolic centers and military bases,” Zelensky proclaimed. “This is an inevitable, natural, and absolutely fair process.”
Zelensky’s message comes in the wake of a Ukrainian drone attack on Moscow, which Russian officials claim took place approximately 300 miles away from Ukraine’s border with Russia.
Russia’s Ministry of Defense reported that they successfully brought down three drones, destroying one in the air and disabling two others that subsequently crashed. The attack resulted in injuries to at least one person and damage to several buildings, leading to a temporary suspension of flights at Moscow’s Vnukovo airport.
While Ukrainian authorities have not publicly claimed responsibility for the recent attack, Ukrainian Air Force spokesperson Yurii Ihnat stated, “There’s always something flying in Russia, as well as in Moscow. Now the war is affecting those who were not concerned.” Ihnat emphasized that despite Russian claims of intercepting all threats, some attacks do manage to hit their targets.
Both Ukraine and Russia have experienced drone attacks throughout the ongoing conflict, which began in February of the previous year. Ukraine has received significant support from the United States and other Western allies, with tens of billions of dollars in security assistance.
On Sunday, Ukraine’s military announced that it had successfully shot down four Russian drones above the Kherson and Dnipropetrovsk regions, as reported by the Associated Press. Multiple strikes on Russia’s capital region have also been reported this month, including a drone strike on Moscow that Ukraine allegedly carried out on Monday, according to a Kyiv official who spoke anonymously to CNN.
Last week, Ukraine’s security service claimed responsibility for an explosion in October that severely damaged a bridge connecting Crimea to mainland Russia. A top official hinted at the possibility of more revelations in the future, stating, “There were many different operations, special operations. We’ll be able to speak about some of them publicly and out loud after the victory, we will not talk at all about others. It is one of our actions, namely the destruction of the Crimean bridge on October 8 last year,” said Ukrainian Security Service head Vasyl Malyuk.
