‘Your Influence In The Republican Party Is Almost Zero’: Meghan McCain Unloads On Joy Behar In Testy Spat Over Matt Gaetz

Meghan McCain let loose Tuesday on co-host Joy Behar during a testy segment on allegations against Republican Florida Rep. Matt Gaetz.

Behar argued on ABC’s “The View” that Republicans seemed to be supporting Gaetz despite claims that he had participated in trafficking underage women for sex, and McCain quickly objected. (RELATED: ‘Rot In Hell’: Meghan McCain Says ‘Cold-Blooded Murderer’ Derek Chauvin Deserves ‘Jail Or Worse’)

“What does that say about the family values party? Not much,” Behar said.

“The Republican Party and people on Capitol Hill are embarrassed by this,” McCain replied. “I think I have a lot better sourcing on that than you do, Joy. No offense.”

McCain then asked why so many Republican politicians seemed to have “weird lawyers,” pivoting back to add that she thought Gaetz was “deeply unserious” and should be removed from his committees.

“There are some people on the left that I think that should be removed from their committees for some of the things they’ve said about Israel … If we’re going to talk about removing committees, we can do this all day long, but Matt Gaetz is a pervert that should go to jail. The end,” she said.

Whoopi Goldberg began to move on to the next topic, but Behar interrupted with a question for McCain.

“Can I ask you a question, Meghan? Because I really — you’re right. You know more about what’s going on in your party than I do,” she said. “My question is if it’s not the Republican Party, shall I call it the Qanon party? What should I call your party now who defends people like Matt Gaetz and goes against Liz Cheney? What are we supposed to call it?”

“I think you can call it whatever you want because your influence in the Republican Party is almost zero, and again, as I’ve said on this show, it is for us to figure out amongst ourselves,” McCain shot back. “What Republican is, like, ‘Oh, Joy Behar doesn’t like my party? Oh, God. I better stop voting for them now.’ The same way I have no influence on the left —”

Behar pushed back, arguing that a lack of influence did not stop McCain from offering advice on what Democrats should do.

“But you’ve said that people on Capitol Hill — you said people on Capitol Hill are supporting him,” McCain replied. “I’m telling you from people that I know personally, they are embarrassed. This is embarrassing for the Republican Party.”

“Why don’t they get rid of him? Why don’t they get him off his committees?” Behar asked. “They didn’t have any problem taking Liz Cheney off her committees without any further investigation.”

McCain pointed out that Cheney was not removed from any committee, but rather, she was voted out of her elected position as conference chair.

“Suddenly they need proof?” Behar asked.

“You saying that the Republican Party is trash, I don’t care!” McCain replied, and the two continued to shout over each other as Goldberg attempted to slow them down.

Goldberg tried to bring in a legal note — stating that Gaetz had not been indicted on any charges and had denied any wrongdoing — but could not get control of the panel. “We’re going to break. We’re going to break,” she said instead.
