Youngkin to give remarks at Virginia Tech in Turning Point tour

The article reports that Virginia Governor Glenn Youngkin will speak at the Turning Point USA national university tour event at Virginia Tech University. This appearance marks the start of a series of governors participating in the tour, which continues following the assassination of Turning Point USA co-founder Charlie Kirk on September 10. Youngkin will share the stage with conservative commentator Megyn Kelly. The Virginia Tech event was scheduled before KirkS death, and the tour now carries on in his memory, with other GOP governors like Spencer Cox, Greg Gianforte, and Jeff Landry also set to speak at upcoming events. Youngkin has publicly honored Kirk’s legacy through moments of statewide prayer, lowering flags to half-staff, and condemning derogatory remarks made about Kirk after his death. Security measures have been heightened for the Virginia Tech event, including bag restrictions, no-camera policies, and security screenings.

Gov. Glenn Youngkin (R-VA) will make an appearance at the Turning Point USA tour at Virginia Tech University on Wednesday night, taking the stage as the first of many governors to appear on the national university tour.

Youngkin will make remarks along with conservative commentator Megyn Kelly.

“Charlie’s mission continues at @TPUSA. Honored to join them with @megynkelly in Blacksburg on Wednesday,” Youngkin posted on X Monday.

The southwest Virginia campus is the second stop on the Turning Point Tour since co-founder Charlie Kirk was assassinated on Sept. 10. The Virginia Tech stop was scheduled before Kirk’s murder, and he was the speaker who was initially supposed to take the stage tonight.

Since Kirk’s assassination, Erika Kirk, who succeeded her late husband as the new CEO of Turning Point USA, announced the tour would continue, and several GOP governors have hopped in line to speak. Govs. Spencer Cox (R-UT), Greg Gianforte (R-MT), and Jeff Landry (R-LA) are each set to appear at “This is The Turning Point” tour stops in the coming weeks.

Youngkin has taken several public measures to honor Kirk and his family, calling for a statewide moment of prayer and reflection following Kirk’s death and ordering the state’s flags to be lowered to half-staff for five days in his honor. He also joined Lt. Gov. Winsome Earle-Sears in calling for the resignation of a Chesterfield County school board member who made a derogatory post about Kirk’s death.

“As Charlie Kirk is laid to rest, Suzanne and I are lifting up in prayer his wife Erika, Charlie’s two young children, and the millions and millions of Americans mourning the loss of this inspiring life stolen from all of us,” Youngkin posted on X the day of Kirk’s funeral. “Charlie’s unwavering devotion to Christ and to the betterment of our great country is a legacy that will never perish.”
