Woke ideology, which prioritizes the embrace of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/what-is-critical-race-theory-breaking-down-the-ideology-thats-hitting-schools-across-the-country\">Critical Race Theory<\/a>, masks the most powerful forces in society\u2019s exclusion of and contempt for those in much more precarious financial positions, she said.<\/p>\n<p>This results in \u201caffluent white liberals using the real pain of black Americans in order to withdraw from the common good and abandon the working class of all races,\u201d said Batya Ungar-Sargon, the deputy opinion editor of Newsweek and author of the book \u201cBad News: How Woke Media is Undermining Democracy.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cA lot of this conversation around Wokeness is actually about class,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are hiding a class divide in America,\u201d she told Brian Stelter on Sunday\u2019s episode of \u201cReliable Sources,\u201d sounding a note not often heard on CNN. \u201cWe are hiding the total dispossession of the working class of all races by focusing on a very highly specialized, academic language around race.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>When Stelter implied that Glenn Youngkin\u2019s victory in last week\u2019s Virginia governor\u2019s race called her thesis into question, she replied, \u201cThe media\u2019s response to Youngkin\u2019s victory is literally the reason that he won.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>She noted that hosts on MSNBC began to spin the victory by saying, \u201cWhite supremacy wins again. Racism wins again,\u201d but in fact, his lieutenant governor, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/winsome-sears-calls-out-joy-reid-over-msnbc-analysts-rant\">Winsome Sears<\/a>, \u201cwill be the first black woman to hold that job.\u201d She added that his ticket attracted broad and diverse support statewide. \u201cGlenn Youngkin managed to flip majority black districts, when he managed to get between 40% and 50% of Latino voters.&nbsp;Are all those people white supremacists? Of course they\u2019re not.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>She said Youngkin voters said they \u201cworried about number one, the economy \u2026 and number two, schooling. And it seems to me it is such a self-own\u201d for the media \u201cto tell people who are worried about the economy that that is white supremacy.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou are essentially criminalizing the views of working-class Americans,\u201d she told Stelter. \u201cYou saw the same thing with the conversation around Critical Race Theory,\u201d when pundits said that \u201cthese people don\u2019t know what Critical Race Theory is\u201d and insisted, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/crt-teacher-crt-isnt-taught-in-schools\">falsely<\/a>, that it is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/here-are-5-ways-the-media-is-trying-to-mislead-you-on-critical-race-theory\">not taught<\/a> in public schools.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat is not a political statement. That\u2019s what they want. Late last month, she told Megyn Kelly that Don Lemon used \u201cmoral panic about race to hide the \u2026 abandonment of the working class by both sides\u201d of the political spectrum.She added that \u201cthe real difference between CNN and Fox is really about class. It\u2019s not even about politics as much or about polarization. It\u2019s about the fact that the Fox News audience that\u2019s pictured by \u2026 Fox News as a channel is a working-class person, as opposed to at the liberal outlets, where they are picturing an increasingly elite, educated audience.\u201d\u201cIn 2012, only 25% of CNN\u2019s viewership had a college degree, which is on a par with Fox. Now, it\u2019s about 50%,\u201d she added. \u201cSo, something they were doing was signaling to working-class viewers \u2014 to liberal, working-class viewers \u2014 this is no longer a channel for you.\u201d[embedded content]Ungar-Sargon\u2019s appearance went viral on Twitter and garnered positive reviews from media critics.
