Superintendent Casey Kosiorek sent an email to parents last month saying there would be \u201cadditional security present outside Northwood\u201d on the day of Ashton\u2019s release.<\/p>\n<p>Parents with concerns ranging from Ashton, their children\u2019s curriculum, COVID-19 restrictions, and recent disciplinary actions from the district showed up to the Hilton Central School District school board meeting to have their voices heard and their questions answered.<\/p>\n<p>Instead, they were denied in-person access to the meeting, kicked out to a school parking lot where they were met with sheriff\u2019s deputies, allegedly smeared as \u201cinsurrectionists\u201d by security \u2014 an accusation the district has called \u201cerroneous\u201d \u2014 and three of them were arrested and charged with trespassing, one of whom was followed home and ticketed by deputies after they agreed to let her go home to take medicine.<\/p>\n<p>The school board meeting was held behind closed doors that evening. She said security directed law enforcement to have her arrested, and authorities complied, telling her it was out of their hands; a so-called \u201cturnover arrest,\u201d video shows.\u201cUnfortunately, if somebody is a representative of a private property \u2026 open to the public \u2026 wants you arrested, [we have to comply],\u201d a sheriff\u2019s deputy told one of the arrested women, video shows. \u201cThis is not us as the Monroe County Sheriff\u2019s Office arresting you, it\u2019s the Hilton Central School District saying that they want you arrested, and we have to facilitate that arrest. It\u2019s a turnover arrest.\u201dFox said she was bewildered by the call for her arrest and became \u201cvery upset\u201d and \u201cpanicked.\u201d As she felt her heart beating faster, she says, she told the deputies she wanted to go home to take her medicine. They agreed she could do so and followed her home. When she got out of her vehicle at her own home, she was ticketed with trespassing at the school.Fox said she was not put in handcuffs during her arrest, though Hilton mom Shanierae Iorio, 42, was cuffed when she was hit with the trespassing charge.\u201cWe were in the auditorium and then the incident happened with Jim [Burroughs], and he left,\u201d Fox said of the start of the evening.\u00a0Burroughs was charged with trespassing for refusing to wear a mask while the parents gathered in the auditorium, awaiting school board members.\u201cWe didn\u2019t even know at that point that he had been arrested,\u201d she explained. \u201cThe board never came out. So, parents were just talking \u2026 a couple of students and a couple parents.\u201d\u201cAll of a sudden, a security guard disrupted what we\u2019re doing and told us we have to leave, so we all got up and we left. He said if you don\u2019t leave you\u2019re gonna be arrested,\u201d the grandmother said, adding that she heard parents were told they could \u201cassemble outside.\u201dFox expressed to The Daily Wire that the mask incident with Burroughs seemed disconnected from the parents being kicked out of the auditorium, since the incident happened approximately 20-30 minutes beforehand, she estimated.\u201cWe were told that someone reported to them (the school board) that we were unruly and that we were insurrectionists,\u201d Fox said. \u201cAnd that was not the truth at all.\u201dAfter parents obeyed the directive to leave the auditorium, some started to realize the school board was going ahead with the meeting without them. According to Fox, a nurse came out of the school and confirmed as much.While parents were assembled outside, video shows security direct authorities to arrest Fox. The grandmother told The Daily Wire that it\u2019s unclear why she was singled out when there were other parents outside, too, but said it was likely because she was vocal and said she would not leave.After it was made clear Fox was going to be arrested, Iorio said she should be arrested, too, since she was allegedly perpetrating the same \u201cviolation\u201d Fox was. Video shows deputies arrested her, too, telling Iorio they were merely complying with a request from security.In a statement provided to The Daily Wire, Fox\u2019s lawyer Daniel E. Strollo accused the district\u00a0of \u201cweaponizing arbitrary mask policies to silence parents and community members who are rightfully speaking out against arbitrary and oppressive policies.\u201d\u201cMs. Fox had an absolute and unequivocal right to attend that meeting under New York\u2019s Open Meetings Law (Public Officers Law Article 7) and the First Amendment of the United States Constitution,\u201d Strollo said. \u201cThe Hilton School District violated Ms. Fox\u2019s rights by kicking her out of that meeting.\u201dStrollo added that \u201cschool officials must understand that they are not kings, and boardrooms are not their castle.\u201d\u201cAs far as Ms. Scism\u2019s comments are concerned, the School District ought to be reminded that the Open Meetings Law is not merely a suggestion that they are free to disregard at their whim.\u201dBefore Oct. 26, Fox told The Daily Wire she had never attended a school board meeting, but decided to go out of concerns stemming from Ashton \u2014 who\u2019s still being paid by the district \u2014 COVID-19 restrictions, and general curriculum.What happened with Ashton is a \u201cbig concern\u201d to her, she said.\u00a0\u201cWe wanted to know what was going on \u2026 What is actually going on [with curriculum]? \u2026 We don\u2019t like the whole masking and we\u2019re concerned the vaccine will become mandated for students, soon.\u201d\u201cI\u2019m disappointed that they couldn\u2019t even face us,\u201d Fox said of the school board. \u201cThey didn\u2019t even come out and talk to us, at all.\u201dAdding to Fox\u2019s account, a parent who has children in the district and wished to remain anonymous told The Daily Wire that the parent was told by \u201cnumerous people\u201d that head of security Dave Inzana was the one to tell school board members not to hold the meeting with the parents because they were staging an \u201cinsurrection.\u201d\u201cHe (Inzana) told the school board there was an insurrection going on and not to come out,\u201d the parent said. \u201cThen [he] told the parents the board refused to come out because parents weren\u2019t wearing masks.\u201dFox told The Daily Wire she heard rumors that parents were deemed \u201cinsurrectionists.\u201d She emphasized that she did not witness the account firsthand and was unable to pinpoint who allegedly called the parents \u201cinsurrectionists.\u201d\u201cThe statement regarding our Head of Security is erroneous as he did not state that parents were inciting an insurrection,\u201d Scism told The Daily Wire via email on Monday about the allegations concerning Inzana.Strollo commented on Inzana, too, suggesting the head of security perjured himself, seemingly to cover for the district barring parents from the meeting.The\u00a0district \u201ccompounded their wrongful conduct,\u201d he said. \u201cThe Hilton School District then lied to the Monroe County Sheriff\u2019s Office, which resulted in Ms. Fox\u2019s arrest for Trespassing.\u201d\u201cMr. David Inzana signed a document \u2014 under penalty of perjury \u2014 alleging that at 8:05 P.M., Ms. Fox trespassed at the school \u2018due to the fact that the board of education meeting had ended and she no longer had legitimate business being on the property,&#8217;\u201d Strollo explained. \u201cA video of the board meeting shows that this is completely false.\u201d (The Complaint can be read here.)\u201cThe Hilton School District\u2019s own video shows board meeting was very much still going on at 8:05 P.M. There is a clock visible in that video that shows that the meeting was going on before 8:00 P.M. and continuing until almost 8:30 P.M.\u201dStrollo provided to The Daily Wire a screenshot of the clock near the start of the school board meeting and one toward the end of it:\u201cI anticipate that the baseless criminal charges against Ms. Fox will be dismissed, and I can assure you that we are exploring all options to hold the Hilton School District accountable for its wrongful conduct,\u201d Strollo warned.The Daily Wire reached out to the office of Monroe County Sheriff Todd Baxter last week to ask why the parents were arrested and charged with trespassing, and specifically why a grandmother was followed home and charged with trespassing. Notably, mother Shannon Joy was arrested at a neighboring\u00a0Fairport Central School District school board meeting and charged with \u201ctrespassing\u201d for improperly wearing her mask.
